COVID-19 has created a need for health care assistants across the province. With Sprott Shaw College’s Health Care Assistant program, you will get the skills and training required to help fill the need for qualified workers in long term care facilities, assisted living settings, hospitals, regional health authorities and more. You will promote the overall well-being of clients by assisting with their daily activities and providing companionship and comfort to clients and their families.

  • Gain the skills to provide quality care and assistance to patients and clients with physical, cognitive or mental health challenges
  • Learn about acute care skills, hospice and palliative care, interpersonal communications, person-centred care, nutrition, home management, health promotion and more
  • Strengthen your knowledge of the cognitive challenges some clients may be experiencing, such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, anxiety disorders and delirium
  • Participate in field-related practicums where you will put your skills into practice in a real-world work environment
  • This program includes training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Standard First Aid, FoodSafe and WHMIS
