Sprott Shaw College’s Primary Care Paramedic diploma program offers preceptorships and placements with BC Emergency Health Services (BC-EHS) throughout the program that provides valuable practical experience while you study. Our immersive curriculum also includes skill labs, role plays, simulations and recorded or live demonstrations. Potential workplace environments include ambulances, emergency rooms, 911 emergency response services, community paramedicine, industrial worksites, remote camps and more. Key program highlights
- You will study such topics as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and accident management as you learn to address medical emergencies, including major trauma, psychiatric, obstetric or neo-natal emergencies, and physical or mental impairment.
- Develop your skills in verbal and written communication, cultural awareness, legal and ethical considerations, crew resource management, personal safety and more.
- Throughout the program, you will actively participate in preceptorships or practicums in acute care, ambulance, palliative care, urgent care and acute-psychological care.
- You will be issued an initial student license to practice under supervision and become eligible for a full license for independent practice.
